Does traffic seem worse? It may be your neighbors’ 1.5 million daily packages being delivered, shares today’s Times.

My neighborhood is bombarded by trucks—and delivery people often ringing every apartment buzzer in a building to contact just one apartment.

Interesting stats from the article:
+ Homes now get more packages delivered than businesses.
+ Traffic speeds have slowed over the last decade.
+ 2 million square Feet of warehouse space is being built in NYC.
+ Carbon dioxide emissions from automobiles and trucks are up 27% in NYC since 1990.
+ The 2017 tax law is giving tax breaks to build Amazon warehouses in the Brooklyn and the Bronx. Notably, some of these ‘poor’ areas were already quickly improving and do not appear to have needed tax payer subsidies.
+ Amazon (and other entities) are moving quickly to make their delivery fleet electric to escape public and government scrutiny.
+ Other cities make heavy use of electric bikes for last mile delivery.
+ NYC is encouraging shippers to move goods by water and rail.
+ NYU Rudin Center for Transportation head said “congestion pricing for online deliveries” should be considered.
+ Delivery companies have taken over public spaces and concerted them to shipping centers, which I’ve personally seen. Amazon delivery people convert public parking spaces into box-filled distribution centers.
