Bridge's ability to process retail purchases using credit cards on Authorize.net was suspended today through approximately 4 pm EST. The issue is fixed now.

The reason for this is early this AM Authorize.net changed its processing location to Singapore and did not alert us.  They updated their API domain to a Singapore-based IP.  Since that city state is a hotbed for hacker activity, Bridge historically has blocked all traffic all incoming (and outgoing) ...Read more of post

Barcodes, first introduced in the 1960s, have come to symbolize shopping. Bridge, which helps unite the retail industry and make shopping easier, sought to pay tribute to the mighty little barcode. We transformed our logo into a barcode-like tribute.

I didn't know that an early use for barcodes was: railroad cars. The barcode would convey the car's owner and contents.  Learn more: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barcode

This week, Amazon launched its online pharmacy targeting the 3.8 billion prescriptions filled in the U.S. each year. Shares of major pharmacy chains dropped about 10% on the news. Amazon honed this weapon in its Seattle lab and is eagerly unleashing it on retail chains and mom-and-pop pharmacies.

Something struck me while reading this news: Does Amazon remind you of Covid-19? The similarities:

Saks Fifth Avenue just launched a new website. Since more than 600 stores rely on Bridge Store to power their websites, I decided to compare the new site, which likely cost millions of dollars, to an indie retailer's Bridge Store software. An indie store pays pennies compared to Saks' millions, so the Saks site must be a million times better, right?

After a careful review, I'm happy to share that our indie stores have the better website. And, it sort of 'saks' for ...Read more of post

Jim Power, the legendary East Village mosaic artist, is profiled in the blog Bedford & Bowery.  We share with Jim a passion to make local neighborhoods vibrant. Bridge commissioned Jim to create four mosaics for Bridge.  Whereas Jim uses pieces of tile, marbles, and broken plates, Bridge's 'mosaics' are computer pixels. Regardless of the material, we both seek to help indie stores thrive. A vibrant community is a mosaic of indie businesses, artists, and ...Read more of post

Today's NY Times shares that many businesses are decreasing their office space footprint as they let employees work from home.

We are entering a new and unusual time post-COVID. More and more people will be working from home, further encouraging companies to decrease their amount of office space. I think this is a good thing for the most part, as it will open up jobs for people who don't necessarily live near a company's office. It also allows people to work from the ...Read more of post

Do businesses like Amazon that short-change our community affect our ability to respond to a crisis?

In this pandemic, Bridge thanks first responders and the many people that help our communities work together. When I think of communities during Covid-19, Amazon comes to mind. I do think there is value in looking back at the last 24 months leading up to today and asking: did Amazon slow down our community's ability to respond?

Amazon historically pays less in ...Read more of post
